Scholarships and PIFI Program

International talent cultivation is an important aspect of SiDRR. Since its launch, it has been committed to cultivating students related to disaster research in the Silk Road area. Through the international talent exchange program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the project team introduced one postdoc from Pakistan, and rely on SiDRR to recruit 50 students from Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Iran, Tajikistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Kenya, Guinea, Congo (Kinshasa), Nigeria, Rwanda, and most of the international students have provided SiDRR Scholarship.

Cooperated by SiDRR, more than 50 international students from about 20 countries in the Silk Road area were enrolled by the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), most of whom were provided with scholarships. After graduation from UCAS, they acquired concrete DRR knowledge and techniques and took their careers in research or practices at DRR frontiers.

President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI) provided by CAS is also an opportunity to work and study at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and CAS institutes and strengthen their scientific collaboration with CAS researchers. This program requires each applicant to have a host from CAS. The SiDRR can be a host of the Program to support highly-qualified international scientists and postgraduates and has already supported 21 in past three years.
